MyBoo is Europe’s largest brand of electric bicycles with bamboo frames.
The brand was founded about nine years ago in Germany and is headquartered in Kiel, Germany. In 2012, Maximilian and Jonas, the founders, received a picture of a bamboo bicycle from their friend Niklas in Ghana.
The two immediately took action to be able to build bicycles out of a sustainable material right in Ghana. After a short period of research, the Ghanaian partner “The Yonso Project” was found.
Thus, from Ghana arrives the supportive e-bike MyBoo. In this way, MyBoo was immediately able to establish a cycle whereby the entire region benefits from the economic commitment of production.

Lightweight and durable bicycles

MyBoo uses bamboo as a one-piece material.
It is lightweight, extremely stable, and absorbs shock in an unrivaled way.
The Yonso Project makes bamboo frames for bicycles in the Ashanti region of Ghana, Africa. My Boo, of course, extols the virtues of bamboo as a frame material, stating that it is a stable, comfortable yet lightweight material.
The brand ensures that the frames are made according to the European bicycle safety standard EN14746. MyBoo’s staff also travels to Ghana annually and optimizes production processes and quality control to ensure every frame is perfect.
Each bamboo bicycle is then hand-assembled in the Kiel workshop in northern Germany and checked by their master mechanics before being sold.

Social support

My Boo and Booomers have also joined forces to manage the Yonso project, which is much more than just making bamboo frames. In fact, their goal is to build schools and educate as many children as possible in Ghana.
Their income helps many people: it ensures access to a good education and a better life for children in the region, which is why in 2017, together with a Ghanaian partner, they laid the foundation for the Yonso Project Model School.
Specific projects include financing school uniforms for those who cannot afford them and a program to help children bike to school.

In addition, the 35 Ghanaians who are all employed in loom production in Ghana receive fair payments, social insurance, and, most importantly, future prospects for themselves and their families. MyBoo’s goal is to be 100% ethical and sustainable and help as many people as possible in Ghana, where it all started.
And to get there, it is important for the brand to expand and become known around the world.
