How sells work

What precisely is the difference between natural and organic products in sustainable market sales? If you too are not fully sure or confident, this is the case for about 50% of European consumers.

An overview of sales; the sustainable market

In France, there has been significant growth. The value of sales of natural and organic products increased steadily between 2010 and 2014. At the end of 2016, a survey showed that a total of 80% of French female consumers buy or have already bought natural and/or organic beauty products. In addition, it was found that 50% of French consumers have decided to buy organic cosmetics.

As far as Italy is concerned, clear labels and hypoallergenic products are essential. These are requirements that natural and/or organic beauty products should meet.

In Sweden, 25% of men and 40% of women are reported to be buying organic skincare products in 2015. In fact, 50% of them can well understand the difference between natural and organic cosmetics compared to the European average.

The growth of Green Beauty Trends

This green, sustainable market has changed significantly since the EU FDA’s ban on chemical ingredients. Recently, the demand has a big positive tilt; the “green beauty” and “clean beauty” trend is driving a rediscovery and use of ingredients. Through analysis, Future Market Insights revealed that global sales of natural cosmetics reached $36 billion in 2019. These cosmetics have infected manufacturers with such a fever that they are eager to capitalize on colorful cosmetics and natural fragrances. A new and creative trend is the creation of cosmetics with fruit and vegetable pigments. Another growing trend is the one of men’s and unisex beauty.

Finally, attracting the attention of different categories of consumers, the rapid penetration of online stores is leading to a realignment of manufacturers’ strategies. Moreover, a spike in demand for more eco-friendly and organic cosmetics is prompting key players in the natural cosmetics market to shift from niche distribution channels to major mass retailers. In 2019, a relatively high volume of natural cosmetics was sold through hypermarkets and supermarkets.
