Nuvole is a fashion brand that creates handmade women’s clothes and accessories, thanks to the blend of fine and sustainable fabrics.

The brand was born as a physical shop in Friuli, where Vania, its founder, welcomes its consumers to make them feel unique and special.

Nuvole combines the emotion of colors with attention to sustainability. The garments are characterized by 70’s geometric shapes, which mix patterns and colors and transfer a unique emotion once worn.

All Nuvole products are created with quality fabrics blended with sustainable materials, such as end-of-production fabrics, unused stocks, and samples. Thanks to the use of these sustainable materials and the precious handmade stitching, the brand offers collections of unique and trendy pieces.

Pre-consumer: processing waste

The fashion industry produces tons of waste every year which promptly end up in the garbage. In fact, 37.4% of waste comes from textiles, clothing and the tanning industry, which produce a huge production of waste, with a consequent waste of raw materials and energy.

However, it is not only the clothes sold and used by consumers that are transformed into waste: there are also the so-called “pre-consumer waste”.

A garment, before reaching the consumer, in fact produces a lot of waste during its processing. Such scraps are called processing waste, including for example fabrics that do not enter the collection or clothes that remain unsold.

Unfortunately, these scraps end up in the garbage without the possibility of reuse. There are several brands that, however, use such scraps to create quality garments at a lower cost, to dispose of unsold items and have less impact on the environment.

Nuvole is an example: the brand designs new uses for waste materials and creates new wealth from fabrics that would otherwise end up in landfills.

The story of Nuvole

Nuvole was born on January 19th 2018, when Vania, its founder, decided to break the barriers and make a change in her life to follow her dream of sewing.

In fact, since she was a child, Vania loved sewing and using fabrics to create garments. Over time, she has learned to recognize fabrics, to match them and to cut them.

In years in which sustainability is beginning to become an important issue, then, Vania has also learned what waste is and how to reuse all resources was essential.

But why Nuvole? Vania told us her story and told us how it all started from a simple dream, which quickly became reality:

As a child I looked at the clouds outside the window and looked at their particular shapes; in them I could see what I wanted. As well as a dream, in which everyone sees what he wants inside. This is why I decided to call it Nuvole.

After years, Vania has therefore decided to leave her job to throw herself into a new adventure that could allow her to make her dreams come true. And so, Nuvole was born.

The greatest inspiration in creating Nuvole was her grandmother, who taught her to sew since she was little.

Her grandmother, she describes, was a creative person who knew how to start from a simple fabric to create a unique and wonderful garment. It is from this creativity that Vania got the drive and the courage to create Nuvole.

Nuvole: sustainable garments

Nuvole sells women’s accessories and garments created with a preference for natural and pre-consumer fabrics, which are saved from garbage and used to create unique garments.

Among the materials used for the manufacture of the garments there are natural fabrics such as silk, wool, linen, viscose and imitation leather for bags. These fabrics derive almost entirely from waste, which is given to it by companies that treat, clean and arrange waste fabrics.

Nuvole’s garments are not only intended to be trendy, but also to last over time. Unlike fast fashion clothes, which need to be continuously washed and thrown away in a short time, the natural materials that are used for the creation of the Nuvole garments allow the clothes to be cared for with little effort and, therefore, during the time:

A more precious fabric used with care gives more satisfaction than a garment that you put in the washing machine and throw away at the end of the season. “

The uniqueness of the garments

However, Nuvole’s garments are not special only for the way they are made. Vania’s personal taste and imagination make everything more unique. Each garment is handmade, with a different fantasy.

His creations communicate the beauty of colors, the grace of shapes and the charm of sustainability.

The percentage of “new” fabrics used is minimal, everything else, for Vania, is research, which she considers as something “much more challenging, but certainly more stimulating”:

For me, wastes are the most fascinating pieces, because they are so small that they do not reach an entire garment and I have to adapt and transform them into unique pieces. “

Vania never has a precise plan on what she will accomplish, because a lot depends on what she has available: fabrics, patterns, colors, materials. This, for Vania, is beautiful, stimulating and in constant motion!Vania never has a precise plan on what she will accomplish, because a lot depends on what she has available: fabrics, patterns, colors, materials. This, for Vania, is beautiful, stimulating and in constant motion!

The satisfaction of giving a new chance to life to fabrics that would otherwise be thrown away is certainly one of the best parts of his work.

Nuvole shows us, therefore, how to wear unique, handmade and sustainable pieces, is even better than buying fast fashion garments: you can get something beautiful and original, even without approaching the big brands.
